Reopening Information

October 15, 2020

Dear EV Families,

We are so excited to welcome our Hawks back to the nest! We will begin in-person learning on October 22. We realize we could not accommodate every request at this time and will be monitoring attendance and class size to invite those on the waitlist to join in-person learning as soon as it is safe to do so.

The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. For those families who elected to have students return to campus for face-to-face learning, below is some important information to help you prepare. Now, more than ever, we will need to work together to maintain a safe learning environment for our EV students. Please review each of these in their entirety.

For a complete list of the district’s health and safety procedures, visit the Littleton Elementary School District Return to School Plan as well as the FAQ page on the district website

  • Littleton Return to School Daily Checklist
  • Littleton Reopening Expectations
  • Littleton Health and Safety Precautions
  • COVID-19 Waiver (signed copies for all enrolled students)

We also want to make sure our students return to a warm and inviting learning environment. For instance, facemasks and social distancing will be mandatory, but our students will be able to eat lunch in the cafenasium and enjoy recess outside. We will still utilize Google Classroom in all grade levels to some extent, but we will provide lessons and activities in person by the teacher. Here are a few additional processes we would like to share with you.

Before leaving for the bus or school

  • Screen your child for signs of illness prior to sending them to school. If your child shows signs of illness you are required to keep them home. If your child has a fever do not send them to school until they are fever-free for three days.
  • Make sure to bring the following items each day:
    • Face mask and a back up
    • Your fully-charged school-issued laptop and charger
    • Individual snack
    • Reusable water bottle
    • Headphones

On the bus

  • Transportation requires a maximum of two students per seat with siblings required to seat together.
  • All students, bus drivers, and monitors will be required to wear a face covering.
  • Increased disinfection procedures will occur on a daily basis.

Arrival

  • Students may not report to campus before 8:25 a.m. We will not open gates until 15 minutes prior to the start of the school day. For your student’s safety and the safety of the staff please make sure you follow this procedure.
  • When students arrive, they will report directly to their classroom.
  • In the front parking lot, it will be “drive-through drop off” only. Parents may not walk students onto campus. The parking lot is closed.
  • School will start at 8:40 a.m.

During the Day

  • Masks are required for all students and staff. Students are to wear their masks at all times, unless they are eating lunch or during their outside recess/mask break.
  • In the classroom, social distancing of six feet apart will be enforced whenever possible.
  • Students will have recess on the playground. Classrooms will have designated outside areas to play and we will develop a schedule so that classroom and grade level cohorts stay together as much as possible and with no equipment used at this time It is possible that social distancing will not occur during recess times.

Lunch

  • All students will continue to receive meals through nutrition services for free through December 31, or they may bring meals from home. Students will eat in the cafenasium, physically distanced, and facing one way.
  • We will follow the CDC's "no sharing" guidelines with all food and drinks.
  • We encourage students who bring their lunch to use a disposable lunch bag.

Front Office

  • The front office will remain closed to the public.
  • Staff is available to help, to receive assistance please call the office at (623) 478-6201.
  • A dropbox has been installed in front of the school.
  • If your student will not be attending call the attendance line at (623) 478-6202.

Health Office

  • The health office will continue to support students while they are on campus.
  • A separate area has been designated for those exhibiting COVID-like symptoms.
  • Families should report COVID-like symptoms or positive COVID-19 test to the health office at (623) 478-6295.

Dismissal

  • We will have a staggered dismissal for car pick-ups as follows:
    • Kindergarten: 3:20 p.m.
    • 1st and 2nd: 3:25 p.m.
    • 3rd and 4th: 3:30 p.m.
    • 5th–8th 3:35 p.m.
  • Parents must stay in their cars for pickup - the parking lot is closed.
  • Cars must have their color-coded nameplate in their windshield.

Keeping our EV students and staff safe is a community effort. It is imperative that you monitor your child’s health and that you do not send your child to school if he/she has a fever, cough, sore throat, or other symptoms of illness. Although this is a challenging time, I am confident that our EV family will get through this together. Our staff is eager to begin in-person teaching. Please be patient as we establish some new and different processes to keep everyone healthy, safe, and ready to learn. We are extremely appreciative of your support and grace during this challenging time. We strive to keep lines of communication open and are here for all of you! Please don’t hesitate to email or call if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nicole Durazo
